Got here almost a week ago now and took a few days off to laze about reading and getting over the jetlag. Since then i´ve been into the city centre a few times and up to a look out point.
It has simmilarities to the cities I saw in central america and the people are simmilar too. First of all hardly anybody speaks English and secondly everybody speaks Spanish. This time I came prepared though and have this little translator gadget so I can look up words and perhaps even remember some of them.
I haven´t really practiced any yet as everything i´ve done here has been with other backpackers who speak a bit more spanish than me. I´ve tended to just follow them when they get a ticket or food or something and say ´uno mas pour favour´ but i´m going to be moving on in a day or two so will have to start trying a bit harder.
Me, another English bloke and an Aussie are off to see a football match tonight – Colo Colo v/s Lota Schwager. I haven´t heard of either of them but am looking forward to it. We met some Colo Colo fans on our mission to buy tickets and they chatted animatedly to us even though we couldn´t understand a word (ok one word, ´Colo´ which was used many many times) but you didn´t need any Spanish to see they are very passionate about their team so it should make for a good atmostphere.
